Torrox is found enclaved in the region of Axarquia, the region further east of this province, furthermore the most eastern region in Malaga. It´s city limits border the province of Granada. There are various coastal municipalities in Axarqui, such as Rincon de la Victoria, Algarrobo, Velez-Malaga and Nerja, municipalites in the eastern side of Costa del Sol, even if Axarquia also has inland municipalities.

The capital of Axarquia is the city of Velez-Malaga, a city with history. Same as many of the other important cities of this region in Nerja. Rincon de la Victoria borders with malaga, and for this the relationship between municipality and capital of the Costa del Sol is so important.

Algarrobo, Torrox, Frigiliana are three other important municipaliteis of the region of Axarquia.
